Vinyl is the common name given to an advanced polymer called Polyvinyl Chloride, or PVC. That's right, PVC. The same stuff that pipes and window blinds are made of. When it comes to Windows, PVC is blended with certain chemicals that allow it to be molded into window frames. To resist sun degradation. And resist heat flow from the outside into your home.
So when someone says they have installed Vinyl Windows in their home, they had windows constructed of an advanced polymer that has been blended with various other chemicals into a plastic framed window.
