Free New Roof for St. Jhon’s Education on Hollywood

SEPTEMBER 10, 2001

Preventive Maintenance Support Services Company TO PUT A FREE NEW ROOF ON ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH’S EDUCATION BUILDING IN HOLLYWOOD.
Hollywood, Florida — KOPPERS, a national manufacturer of roofing materials, and PMS Roofing of Boca Raton have teamed up to provide free materials and labor to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood, Florida for the Education Building in need.

The new cold-applied tar emulsion system called “Onyx,” will be installed during the week of September 17-21st.  A dedication ceremony is scheduled for October 7th at 12:30 p.m.  Members of the congregation, community, and the press are invited to attend and participate.

“I think it’s wonderful that they (Preventive Maintenance Support Services Company) would do this for us,” said Jack Underwood, member of the church vestry and Director of Operations, Ganot Realty.  “This will do wonders for the building and the church.  We hope this will become a trend among contractors, but Preventive Maintenance Support Services Company is always ahead of the industry.”

“We’re honored to be working together on this very important project,” said Marilyn Irr, President of PMS Roofing.  “This is the kind of thing that we have wanted to do for along time-giving something back to our community.  St. John’s is a perfect choice because they do so much for the community as a whole, with their programs for the homeless, and the soup kitchen and all.  They are truly deserving of this gift.”

KOPPERS is also happy to oblige and chip in.  “KOPPERS is a leader in coal tar, and we are very pleased to be a part of this.  When PMS asked us to participate with them, we were only too happy to be a part of it, states Bill Henry, Southeast Regional Manager for KOPPERS.”

What makes this project so unusual is that PMS will be applying a newly designed, cold-applied, coal tar system.  “This is the state of the art in the roofing industry.” Kris Irr, VP of PMS noted.  “This system that KOPPERS’ has developed may revolutionize the roofing industry. It has the many characteristics of the traditional, hot applied coal tar roofing system that has performed for over 85 years. In addition, the owner may qualify for a $.15/ft2 rebate from Florida Power and Light if the coating meets certain reflectivity standards.  It’s a terrific way for commercial property managers to save money on their energy bills.”

Father Matthew Faulstich, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Hollywood looks at the event from the perspective of a shepherd for his flock.  “As people of faith we believe God supplies all of our needs.  This is a very good example of God’s abundant grace.  We are truly appreciative of this gift.”

The ceremony will be held on the church grounds, which are located at 1704 Buchanan Street Hollywood, FL 33020.  There will be other groups in attendance, both from the church, like the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and from outside the church, but with whom the church works very closely, like Jubilee Ministries.  St. John’s sponsors “The House of Treasures” (a consignment and gift shop) and serves as host to the Jubilee Ministry’s Soup Kitchen for the homeless and needy.
